I do believe I messed up

and did two experiment posts on Friday; so this one is a bonus

The stupid... it's amazing

Three British professors recently claimed that statistical analyses have been weaponized to “serve white racial interests” within academia and beyond.

Led by David Gillborn, a professor at the University of Birmingham, the professors argue that math serves white interests because it can “frequently encode racist perspectives beneath the facade of supposed quantitative objectivity.”

Meanwhile, over in (formerly Great)Britain,
Remember when politicians and police chiefs used to boast that crime was falling, and academics and liberal news media used to believe them? It was a lie, of course, based on fiddled statistics which have now been thoroughly exposed. But it suited the Establishment at the time.

What the figures actually meant was that the police and courts had decided that millions of actions which were once considered crimes were now not crimes any more. So they would neither record them nor do anything about them. This is still true, as you will find out if one of these ‘petty’ crimes happens to you.

But some crimes – in which people die or are seriously hurt – cannot be magicked out of existence in this way.

And
Police have arrested 20 men as part of an investigation into historic abuses by a grooming gang that operated in West Yorkshire.

The suspects, aged between 28 and 43, were detained in three days of raids across Calderdale and Kirklees.

Says it pretty well

"Shithole" is a perfectly good rude, slangy word. It has a great history, and it's vivid and effective. It is not a racial term, and shame on the people who are making it racist. I wonder if these people ever think of the pain and damage they are causing by proclaiming and insisting upon a connection between dark skin and excrement. They're revealing what's in their head, and they don't mind burdening dark-skinned people with the knowledge that they are being thought about like that. "
But if they don't make it racist, what do they have left?

After watching some people insist that Brexit was racist, and so was anything else they didn't like, I've given up on trying to change minds; it's wasting my time and annoying the pig.

Damn, it's late

Here 'tis

Ah, damn-cold-out-there Friday is here

so,

Some more range day notes

The Lee 405-grain flatnose bullet, in mongrel alloy, shot a quite nice group over BH209 powder; I'm going to have to try this again.

I've been using a wad under most bullets both to protect the base from powder gasses, and to prevent any possible contamination of the powder by traces of lube on the bullet base; need to load some without, and see how they work.  So far as the lube goes, just carefully wiping the base clean should take care of that.

I've read a lot of debate on using a wad with smokeless powder, varying between "No big deal" and "You'll blow up your rifle!"  Anything that might cause nasty pressure pulses in firing scares hell out of me, so there's that.  There's also a lot of people having used a wad to either protect the bullet base(with the resized case preventing any chance of it moving further into the case), or- with light loads- using a pasteboard wad to keep the powder toward the base for more consistent ignition.  The latter especially sets a lot of people off on the 'blow up' side.  It does seem to improve accuracy with Green Dot, but you might get the same effect by making sure to tilt the rifle up before firing to make sure the powder is at the back.

No, I didn't think to test that before.

I want to try some of those Lee 405-grain hollowbase bullets with black powder, see how that works out.

I think that catches this mess up for now.

If you're a rich, idiot politician a thousand-dollar bonus IS a crumb;

if you're someone working for a living instead of being a parasite, it's some real money.

Once again: trust ANY of these bastards?
"Nearly every examiner in an elite FBI forensic unit gave flawed testimony in almost all trials in which they offered evidence against criminal defendants over more than a two-decade period before 2000," the newspaper reported, adding that "the cases include those of 32 defendants sentenced to death."

The article notes that the admissions from the FBI and Department of Justice "confirm long-suspected problems with subjective, pattern-based forensic techniques—like hair and bite-mark comparisons—that have contributed to wrongful convictions in more than one-quarter of 329 DNA-exoneration cases since 1989."

"Bigotry and hate and threats and damage to lives aren't evil

when We do it."
‘Discourage them all throughout the industry’
“If we really care about diversity in tech, we don’t just need to chase serial offenders out of Google, we need to discourage them all throughout the industry,” a lengthy internal post on Damore read. “We should be willing to give a wink and a nod to other Silicon Valley employers over terminable offenses, not send the worst parts of tech packing with a smile …”

‘I will hurt you’
Damore’s memo prompted another employee to post this quote: “I’m a queer-ass nonbinary trans person that is fucking sick and tired of being told to open a dialogue with people who want me dead. We are at a point where the dialogue we need to be having with these people is ‘if you keep talking about this shit, i will hurt you.”

And:
‘You’re being blacklisted…at companies outside Google’
Wonderful people, aren't they?

Why is half of Puerto Rico still without power?

Because they haven't hanged enough corrupt politicians and bureaucrats yet.

This... this is horrible

A Sevier County Sheriffs Deputy freaked out during an encouter, opened fire randomly into a trailer park, then had a panic attack and had to be disarmed by a Paramedic.

That in-and-of-itself is crazy. Talk about a ridiculously bad shoot.

To make matters worse, the couple involved in the incident were charged with assault for making the Deputy have a panic attack. The Sheriff defended the deputy for shooting at a man holding a phone.

And, to make it even worse, this from one of the stories linked at the post:
Mullinax and Cody spent 42 days in jail on felony aggravated assault charges filed against them by SCSO and directly accusing them of causing Johnson’s panic attack.

The couple were held without a preliminary hearing for weeks. The law requires such a hearing for jailed suspects within 10 business days of arrest. A judge in March tossed out the felony charges, but sent the case to a Sevier County grand jury review.
Well, Sheriff, your county- and if there was any real justice, YOU- will be paying for this for a long time to come.

Some other results from the range

I've read of using coffee filter paper for patches on bullets, so I tried it with bullets and load of known accuracy; no.  Back to onionskin.  The description of results is 'patterns, not groups'.

Obtained some bullets cast from this mold, and tried them; not bad.  I think these would work well with black powder, the lube grooves are deep and wide enough.

There's only so much wind in the face and glare I can take nowadays and still shoot well.

A note about glare

Other day I played hooky from cleaning the house and, the temp being decent(even if the wind was a bit strong), headed to the range for a bit.

Which brings us to glare: on this target I noticed the glare, but went ahead and fired the first two shots, then decided it was annoying enough to do something about.  A piece of pasteboard(end flap from a cartridge box) was used to rig a sunshade, after which I fired the next three shots.  Top two were the first
A: That's quite a bit of difference.
B: That load will do

Tab clearing

Carbon taxes + other taxes + 'Green' Energy = disaster.

The EffingBI needs cleaning out, top to bottom.  And a bunch of these people seem to belong behind bars.

If the EffingBI had actually done its job, some of these people would already be behind bars.

He went on to emphasise the shortcomings of Trump’s predecessors, adding: “My old boss, former British prime ministerDavid Cameron, thought Obama was one of the most narcissistic, self-absorbed people he’d ever dealt with.

“Obama never listened to anyone, always thought he was smarter than every expert in the room, and treated every meeting as an opportunity to lecture everyone else. This led to real-world disasters, like Syria and the rise of Isis.”

Lest it be forgotten, this mess is still hanging fire, too

In March 2016, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and FBI announced that an FBI agent was suspected of firing twice at Finicum and may have gotten help from four other FBI agents in covering up afterward. No other agent has been charged in the case.
So, if the other agents helped him, they're guilty as well, so why the hell HAVEN'T they been charged?

How bad the the FBI, DoJ, and BLM eff up?

This bad.
A federal judge dismissed all charges against Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, his two sons and another man on Monday after accusing prosecutors of willfully withholding evidence from Bundy’s lawyers.

U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro cited "flagrant prosecutorial misconduct" in her decision to dismiss all charges against the Nevada rancher and three others.
Yeah.  That bad.

“Either the government lied or [its actions were] so grossly negligent as to be tantamount to lying,” Napolitano said. “This happened over and over again.”

Now, someone tell me again how 'The leadership may be flawed, but the rest of the FBI can be trusted'?
Navarro said Monday it was clear the FBI was involved in the prosecution and it was not a coincidence that most of the evidence that was held back – which would have worked in Bundy’s favor – came from the FBI, AZCentral reported.

Now what needs to happen:
Move to disbar the .gov lawyers involved in the lies and lawbreaking.
Move to fire and prosecute the federal agents involved in lying(under oath, mind you), hiding/tampering with evidence, and so forth.
Serious investigations of all the agencies involved; this kind of crap isn't a one-off.

"But did they have a proper racial and gender mix in the unit?"

Who gives a crap, they fight and they WIN.
An elite SAS soldier cut off an ISIS fighter's head with a spade after he ran out of ammunition during a bloody six-hour battle, it was claimed.

After killing the jihadist, the British sergeant used the enemy's gun to kill more militants.
...
The source told the Daily Star: “The SAS thought they had seen their last day. “They made a pact that they wouldn’t be taken alive and vowed to fight to the death.

“They made every bullet count and when they ran low on ammo they waited for the jihadis to get close enough so they could be killed with grenades or using rifles as clubs – that was when one of the SAS managed to kill a man with a spade.”

The remaining jihadis fled when two US military Apache attack helicopters arrived at the battle site in eastern Afghanistan.

Suspending his law license is a good start; now

they need to go after the corrupt cops involved, too.
Records show that two days later, while Larkin spoke with his attorney about defense strategy during a police interrogation break, the officers left their video recorder running on what was supposed to be a private meeting.

That video later was viewed by LaPorte Chief Deputy Prosecutor Robert Neary. He also ordered a transcript be made and had it distributed, including to the special prosecutor appointed to handle the case after John Espar was elected in 2014 replacing Bob Szilagyi as county prosecutor, according to court records.

Court records also indicate that police or prosecutors likely tampered with evidence from the safe before providing it to Larkin's examiner.
Y'know, there are people who go to jail for tampering with evidence.  These bastards should, as well.  If they don't, they're telling every jury out there that these people cannot be trusted to provide honest testimony and evidence; wonder if the cops and prosecutors office are considering that, or just don't care?

"Women don't do well in STEM classes because of masculine ideals!" Really?

Together, Parson and Ozaki interviewed eight female students majoring in math or physics to learn more about why women struggle in STEM. From their interviews, the professors learned that many women feel pressure to conform to so-called “masculine” norms.
According to the professors, these masculine norms include “asking good questions,” “capacity for abstract thought and rational thought processes,” “motivation,” the expectation that students would be “independent” thinkers, and a relatively low fear of failure.
“This requirement that the average student asks questions and speaks in class is based on the typical undergraduate man,” they contend.
So asking questions, speaking in class, and- oh, hell, I can't go on.  Parson and Ozaki, you misogynist bastards!

And a whole EIGHT STUDENTS?  That's it?

And oh, you'll love this:
Further, the professors contend that the time-consuming nature of STEM coursework also inhibits female success, since a tough course load reinforces “the masculine ideal of working an unlimited number of hours based on the unencumbered male body.”
What the hell is the 'unencumbered male body'?  And, once again, these woman- excuse me, womyn-hating clowns think women aren't capable of working hard on a class?

Short version: "Not enough females do well in these classes for us to be happy, so we need to change the classes.  What?  Demand females work as hard as the males trying to pass?  That's sexist!"  Etc.

Also, note that they apparently think that women who DO succeed are, well, a bit too masculine?

Idiots.  And they're professors, being paid for this garbage.

Braids. Are cultural appropriation...

First, the good news in this story:

A six-month investigation by the department determined that then-student Crystal Sudano was discriminated against based on race and faced racial harassment and retaliation after challenging the professor’s views.

The bad: the kind of idiocy and racism this academic asshole was spewing:
In Facebook messages, he accused the student of being “racist” for wearing an Aztec mascot T-shirt and said she appropriated culture when she wore her hair in braids.
...
The student challenged the professor’s views, saying that “The idea is that everyone no matter how low on the totem pole you are, shared governance is what gives the lowest man the right to share his opinion and for that opinion to be heard.”

Monge then criticized Sudano, saying she should not use the phrase “totem pole” and went on to lash out against other students in the group, calling one an “Uncle Tom” and others “Frat Bros and Sorority Sisters … who do not easily empathize with non-whiteness,” the student paper reported.
Oh yeah, there's more.  I wonder how much this asshat was being paid for this crap?

Oh yes, Faster please

Their creation treats tinnitus by using precisely timed sounds and weak electrical pulses designed to persuade damaged nerves in the region of the brainstem called dorsal cochlear nucleus into working correctly again.
